Morristown-Based Arts Programs Get $820K In Grants

The four arts organizations will share $820,000 worth of grant money from the state.

MORRISTOWN NJ — Several Morristown-based arts organizations received over $820,000 in state grants to help fund ongoing activities.

Mayor Performing Arts Center and it's Poetry Out Loud program, Morris Arts, Morris Museum, and the New Jersey Theatre Alliance all received grants from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. Overall, the Council awarded $15.7 million in grants to 700 arts organizations across the state.

"It is an honor to lead a department that invests in the people of New Jersey in such diverse and meaningful ways," said Secretary of State Tahesha Way. "Grants through the State Arts Council have a direct positive impact on New Jersey residents, families and communities. The return on the investment is undeniable, and we are grateful to today's award winners for the important work they do."

The arts are an economic driver in the state: 3.8% of New Jersey's GDP comes from the arts. Morristown is home to a number of arts related businesses, perhaps most notably the Mayo Performing Arts Center.

  • Mayo Performing Arts Center (Poetry Out Loud): Co-Sponsored Project, $87,500
  • Morris Arts: Local Arts Program $113,388
  • Morris Museum: Arts Education Special Initiatives $12,000
  • Morris Museum: General Operating Support $149,262
  • Morris Museum (Arts Annual): Co-Sponsored Project $19,000
  • New Jersey Theatre Alliance: General Operating Support $185,000
  • New Jersey Theatre Alliance (Cultural Access Network): Co-Sponsored Project $50,000
