Morristown Carjacking Part of Busted International Theft Ring

Luxury car theft scheme busted in Newark, 19 arrested according to NJ.com report.

Police had tracked the vehicle in Union Township heading into Newark, but had been unable to catch the alleged carjacker at that time, according to a report issued by the Morristown Police Department in June.

It has now been revealed that this was more than just an isolated incident, but rather part of an international luxury car theft ring based in Newark, which NJ.com reported Thursday had been busted, charging 19 people in New Jersey, New York and Kansas.

The article also notes that the vehicle stolen in Morristown, a 2009 Jaguar XF Supercharged, was recovered two weeks later, after it had been given a new VIN number and was awaiting export to Nigeria from the Bayonne Auto Terminal.
