Morristown Continues Legacy Of Local Student With Scholarship
In remembrance of Myles Mislavsky, the Mislavsky/Martinez Family launched the "Myles Smiled on You" Award in 2019.
MORRISTOWN, NJ — For the past four years, the Morris Educational Foundation has accepted applications for a student loan reduction award named after a late Morristown High School student.
The Morris Educational Foundation announced Wednesday that online applications for the Myles Smiled on You Award, which is given to Morristown graduates who need assistance repaying college or trade school loans, are now open.
The award was established in memory of Myles Mislavsky, a 2013 Morristown High School alumnus, and is supported by individuals who knew and loved Mislavsky, including his family, friends and the Golden Bagel Runners.

"Myles was an amazing human being. Witty, charismatic, giving and loyal…these words merely scratch the surface in describing Myles. He made a lasting impact on the lives of those around him and was committed to helping others," the foundation said.
Mislavsky passed away after falling from a parking deck on Sept. 11, authorities said.

This award will be granted to Morristown High School alumni who represent Mislavsky's many positive attributes. It was created to alleviate the burden of debt that many students face after graduating from college or trade school, making it difficult for them to save and achieve successful.
The award is offered to any Morristown High School graduates with student debts who have graduated from a college, university, or trade school.
To be eligible for this award, a Morristown High School graduate must:
- Have graduated from a 2- or 4-year college, university or trade school.
- Have undergraduate debt.
- Meet the application requirements set forth below.
- In 2023, this scholarship will be awarded to multiple alumni, at least one of whom graduated with Myles (2013)
The application includes a 500-word essay in which candidates express how they deal with difficult mental and physical health conditions, how they show empathy toward others, and what they do to support their family and community.
In addition, applicants must submit a letter of recommendation that highlights their personality and addresses their character.
The award provides up to $5,000 to help with student debt.
Since its inaugural year in 2019, the Morris Educational Foundation has presented more than 20 alumni with the Myles Smiled on You Award.
