Here's how the ward races in Morristown are shaping up:

  • First Ward: Independent Robert Iannaccone intends to run for a third term. No Democrats or Republicans have filed to run against him.
  • Second Ward: Cotten, a Democratic incumbent, will not run for re-election. Tina Lindsey, the Morristown Housing Authority's residents' representative, has filed to run as a Democrat.
  • Third Ward: With incumbent Armington out of the race, Steve Pylypchuk and Shade Tree Commission member Robert Bell will compete in the Democratic primary for the right to run in the November general election.
  • Fourth Ward: Council President Mayer is seeking a second term. But she must defend herself against a Democratic primary challenge from Chris Russo. The Democratic primary winner in the Fourth Ward will face Republican candidate Bruce Meringolo, a former Long Hill mayor and the only Republican to file for Morristown races.

When announcing his candidacy, Meringolo expressed concern about the current lack of transparency in Morristown government business. He cited a lack of information available to residents about the township's proposal to spend millions to buy the old post office on the Green and relocate town hall.
