Morristown Nurse Saved Man's Life At New Orleans Dance Party

A nurse in the hospital's cardiac electrophysiology unit, Laura Pizzano knew exactly what to do when she saw a man collapse.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — Morristown Medical Center nurse Laura Pizzano was just trying to have a good time when she attended a dance hall in New Orleans last week. But when a man collapsed, she knew what she needed to do, and helped save his life.

Pizzano, a nurse in the hospital's cardiac electrophysiology unit, saw a 74-year-old man collapse last Thursday. Alongside another nurse at the dance, Pizzano began preforming CPR and administered electric shocks from an AED.

"Then we felt a pulse. He had a pulse and then a few minutes later he opened his eye. Then the paramedics got there and he was in a normal rhythm and his oxygen level was perfect. He started communicating with us and it was just a miracle," Pizzano said.

The dance hall had just purchased the AED, and had hoped to never need it, Fox 8 reported.

The man's daughter told Fox 8 that he is doing well, and will undergo surgery soon. He is expected to fully recover.
