Morristown St. Patrick's Day Parade 2019: What You Need To Know

Here's everything you need to know ahead of this Saturday's parade.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — The annual Morristown St. Patrick's Day Parade is back for its 40th year in 2019, and residents can expect the same fun they've come to love. Here is everything you need to know about the parade before it kicks off this Saturday, March 9.

When is it?

The 2019 St. Patrick's Day Parade will be held on March 9.

What time does it start?

The music will start at 10:10 a.m., and will feature traditional and modern Irish music. The entertainment continues until noon, and includes dancing, school bands, and other entertainment.

What's the route?

The parade kicks off at Town Hall and travels down South Street to the Green, onto Washington Street, and will end near the high school.

Will there be road closures?

Drivers should be prepared for gridlock. Roads will close at 11:30 a.m., and stay closed until clean up is done. Detours will be in place, but drivers should expect delays, traffic, and plan alternate routes before you head out. (You can see a map of what roads will be closed below.)

Can we drink at the parade?

Alcohol is not welcome at the actual parade itself, but anyone looking for a drink can stop into one of Morristown's local bars. Many bars are opening early in the morning to accommodate the parade crowds, some as early as 9 a.m. You can check out a rundown of local bar and restaurant deals here.

Are there other celebrations taking place around the parade?

St. Patrick's Day is a Catholic holiday, and those looking to celebrate religiously are invited to attend the annual mass at Assumption Church at 10 a.m. on parade day. The mass will celebrate Irish culture and St. Patrick.

Who is the Grand Marshall this year?

Father Patrick "Paddy" O'Donovan, Pastor of Notre Dame of Mount Carmel Church in Cedar Knolls has been selected as the 2019 Grand Marshall. A native of Ireland, Father Paddy served in churches and parochial schools around Northern New Jersey. You can read more about him here.
