Morristown Vintage Poster Sale to Benefit Veterans
Stop by the Simon Gallery on Saturday from 6-8 p.m.
Local Steve Berger is putting together a show at Simon Gallery on Saturday and proceeds from each sale will be donated to a local war veteran charitable organization.
"I am curating a vintage WWI & WWII poster show at Simon Gallery that is previewing this Saturday from 6-8 p.m," said Berger.
The posters were collected by Brooklyn Physician David Orzeck and inherited by his daughter Lida Orzeck.

"Both Lida and I are very excited about Saturday's preview sale of this very large and rare collection of historical art," said Berger. "For her it will be an emotional evening as she will share with the public the collection that her father recognized at a young age as historically and artistically significant. Together, father and daughter have cared for these posters for 95 years and I am proud to help bring these this art to exhibit."
This exclusive collection has more than 750 authentic and original WWI & WWII posters. The collection is comprehensive and provides a visual history of America through the war years. Iconic images were created by some of the greatest artists of the 20th century, each one either selling war bonds, promoting factory production, increasing morale, recruiting soldiers and nurses, warning of espionage or conserving our resources. In a world where art was the primary vehicle for mass communication, these propaganda campaigns worked.

"Morristown's military history makes it the ideal city to show war posters and we hope that Saturday's preview sale and future events attract more than just interested buyers and collectors," said Berger. "It is a museum-worthy collection and its breadth and scope should be appreciated by as many people as possible."
Each poster has been archivally preserved in accordance with museum standard guidelines and is ready for framing. Simon Gallery in Morristown will be hosting preview sales on April 27, May 17 and June 20 and showcasing the collection at a month-long exhibition in July. Additionally, the Hyatt Morristown will be hosting a sales event on May 24. The collection is also available for private showings by appointment by contacting Steve Berger at 917-664-9392 or at steve@vintagewarposters.com. Proceeds from each sale will benefit homeless New Jersey veterans and their families through their charitable partner Community Hope.
"Because of the direct link between these posters and the military, we wanted to give something to something back to some of our local war veterans and their families, many of whom suffer from mental illness and an inordinate number who are plagued by homelessness," said Berger. "We were very pleased to find that Community Hope directly services these veterans and we are proud to donate a portion of each poster sale to this very worthy cause."
