Morristown Warns Of Flooding, Issues Tips
Quickly melting snow and heavy rains lead to excess water throughout area.

MORRISTOWN, N.J. – The only thing more potentially damaging than 30 inches of snow in less than 24 hours is how quickly that snow can melt into the ground.
In Morristown, that’s exactly what’s happening.
Mild temperatures and a full day of soaking rain Wednesday perpetuated the problem, which lead the town of Morristown to release information on safety tips in the event of outdoor and indoor flooding.

- Avoid areas that are already flooded
- Never try to drive through swift water
- If floodwaters rise around your car, abandon the car and move to higher ground if you can do safely
- Be extra careful at night when its harder to recognize flood danger
When on foot:
- Do not walk across a flowing stream if the water is higher than your ankles
- Never walk through or swim through swift waters
- Keep children away from floodwater
In house:
- If basement floods with more than 2” of water call your plumber immediately to provide pump outs. If you feel your pilot lights on any of your gas appliances is affected or you are not sure call 911 for immediate dispatch of the Fire Department to your location.
- Ensure there are no exposed electrical wire in any water. If so please call your electrician or if in immediate danger or not sure call 911 for immediate Fire Dispatch
