PHOTOS: Pocket Park Now Open to Patrons

If you haven't set foot in Morristown for a few months, you would be surprised to see the former Washington Building, on the corner of Schuyler and Washington, . Replacing it is , approved earlier this year by the Morris County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

The fences have been removed from around the site, which brought a number of curious onlookers out on Monday.

Nick Dimitrakiou, of FTI Consulting located above , said the park opens up the space "to these two nice buildings," he said. "It's a gateway to Morristown."

Andreas Panayi, one of his partners, noted the park "adds value."

Meanwhile, Amanda Thiem, who also works at FTI Consulting, said she hoped there would be a bit more green to go along with the sidewalks that cross through. "But, it's nice once you're down here (walking on it)," she said.

A pervious surface next to the grass, however, left Thiem puzzled. "What is this," she asked. "Are they going to put Hop Scotch on this?"

County Engineer Steve Hammond said it was an "architectural feature" approved by the town, which would serve a similar purpose to the grassy area.

"We'll see how it holds up in the winter time," he said. "It may change in the spring, but we'll have to see."
