Police Log: Bears, Arson, And Lost Hikers Among Recent Complaints In Morris County

Morris County Park Police officers responded to the alert of three bears in the Sunrise Lake area.

Morris County Park Police officers found bears, suspicious persons, and lost hikers across Morris County parks this past week:

Aug. 28

Officers were dispatched to a residence at Lee's County Marina in Mount Arlington on a report of a fall victim. The police provided the necessary assistance and no injuries have been reported.

Officers were dispatched to the South Street area of Loantaka Brook Reservation in Morris Township on a report of a 51 year-old male possibly suffering a heart attack. Emergency Medical Services also responded to observe and to treat the patient.

Officers were dispatched to Central Park in Parsippany on a report of a juvenile who sustained injuries while playing in a soccer game. He was transported to the hospital for further observation and/or treatment.

Aug. 29

Officers were dispatched to the Visitor's Center area of Pyramid Mountain in Montville on a report of suspicious persons in the area. Suspicious individuals were located and issued summonses.

Officers were dispatched to the Sunrise Lake area of Lewis Morris County Park in Mendham Township on a report of three bears in the area. Officers were able to disperse the bears without any further incident.

Officers were dispatched to the Miner's Church area of Mount Hope County Park in Rockaway Township on a report of damage to the building. The incident was turned over to the Detective Bureau for investigation.

Aug. 30

Officers were dispatched to Pyramid Mountain in Montville on a report of three lost hikers. Officers eventually located the hikers safely and without incident.

Aug. 31

Officers were dispatched to Columbia Trail in Washington Township on a report of an assault. No injuries were reported and all parties were referred to Washington Township Municipal Court for further action.

Sept. 2

Officers were dispatched to the Sunrise Lake area of Lewis Morris County Park in Mendham Township on a report of a 76-year-old female who fainted. E.M.S. responded and transported her to the hospital for further observation and/or treatment.

Sept. 3

Officers observed a suspicious occupied vehicle in Speedwell Historical Village in Morristown. An investigation revealed an occupant, a 26-year-old from Morristown, to have a warrant for failure to appear in Bridgeton Municipal Court. He posted bail and was released with a new court date pending.

Officers were dispatched to Columbia Trail in Washington Township on a report of a fire. An initial investigation revealed the fire to be arson. Investigation turned over to the Detective Bureau.

Officers were dispatched to Pyramid Mountain in Montville on a report of a lost hiker. This person was eventually located safely and transported back to his vehicle.
