MORRISTOWN, NJ — The sentencing hearing for a Paramus school bus driver who pleaded guilty in December to vehicular homicide charges has been postponed.

A spokesperson for the Morris County Sheriff's Office confirmed today that the hearing for driver Hudy Muldrow Sr., which was scheduled to be held Feb. 6, has been moved to Wednesday, Feb. 26.

The crash that occurred May 17, 2018 took the lives of a teacher and student from Paramus East Brook Middle School. Prosecutors said that while on the way to a field trip to Waterloo Village in Byram, three buses missed an exit.

Muldrow cut across three lanes of traffic on I-80 in an attempt to reach the exit, but the bus he was driving was struck by a dump truck, knocking the body of the bus off its chassis and injuring virtually all the 45 students, teachers and adults on board.

The state Motor Vehicle Commission confirmed Muldrow had a history of driving trouble, including 14 license suspensions. At the time of the crash, he had an active commercial driver's license with valid passenger and school bus endorsements.

Paramus officials said they were not aware of his driving record.

Muldrow faces an aggregate sentence of 10 years in New Jersey state prison — five years for each of the reckless vehicular homicide charges, which would run concurrently but would be subject to a mandatory minimum of 85 percent of the sentence, officials said.
