Anti-Police, Religious Tags Left on South St. Buildings

Graffiti. It's not something seen in great quantity in Morristown. And, officials hope it stays that way.

However, several South Street sidewalks and buildings, including at and the , were tagged Saturday night.

The main message? By Monday, after some scrubbing, the tag on the side of Provesi looked more like "Puck the Police" than anything else.

"We didn't really know what it said at first," Provesi Manager Michael Webber said. "This is a total cut-through. On Saturday nights, there's a stream of people passing through." 

Morristown Police could not be reached Monday for comment.

Over at the library, work commenced quickly to get the purple prose off the exterior wall. 

"We called the police, filed a report," Library Director Maria Norton said. "You can't let that stuff stand, it's just not acceptable."

Mayor Tim Dougherty noted the anti-police comments weren't the only messages the taggers were trying to get across.

"Some comments were God related, we're not sure what it was in reference to," he said.

"Obviously we don't condone this kind of behavior," Dougherty said. "It's difficult [to catch those who graffiti.] Police will keep their eyes open. Hopefully, it's an isolated incident."

"It's so rare to see any graffiti in Morristown," Norton said. "It's kind of shocking. We wanted to get it off as soon as possible."
