Students Bring Gun To Morris County High School: Police

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Two Morris County high school students were arrested on Thursday after school staff discovered they were in possession of a gun, Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll said.

Officials said Denville Police responded to Morris Knolls High School, where the two juveniles and weapon had already been secured by members of the school staff. The two minors involved were arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and other related offenses.

There was no active threat to the school, staff or students and the matter remains under an official investigation, Carroll said.

Since this matter involves juveniles, no further information will be released, police said.

The superintendent of the district, James Jencarelli, could not be reached immediately for comment.

Members of the Denville Police Department will maintain an increased presence at the school over the next few days.

Carroll thanked the members of the Morris Knolls administration and staff "for their actions and cooperation in identifying and quickly resolving this incident."

The school is part of the Morris Hills Regional District, which is a comprehensive regional public school district comprised of two four-year public high schools serving the communities of Denville and Rockaway.
