MORRISTOWN, NJ — A popular Mexican chain restaurant recently shuttered two of its New Jersey locations, including one in Morristown.

Tito’s Burritos & Wings, which was located at 26 Washington Street, closed permanently on Sunday, July 30, according to an announcement from the company.

"We are sad to let you know that after 14 years, the Tito’s Burritos & Wings family has made the painful decision to close our Morristown location, effective end of day Sunday, July 30," the email read.

According to restaurant officials, the reason behind the closure came strictly from a financial standpoint.

"In full transparency, despite our best efforts, our Morristown store was just not profitable," the company said.

All current employees at the Morristown location were offered a transfer within the Tito’s Burritos system, so no jobs were lost as a result of the closure, company officials said.

Tito's Burritos had been serving Morristown residents "Cal-Mex" food for more than a decade. One of their most popular items is a massive taco called "The Fat Amy," which is a crispy 12-inch tortilla shell that holds fried chicken tenders, french fries, cheese, lettuce, spicy chipotle sauce, and pico de gallo.

The company dubs it the biggest taco you'll ever eat, and it is only rivaled by "The Fat Bastard," which replaces the chicken with ground beef and features grilled peppers and onions, and sour cream.

Tito's menu also includes a large selection of burritos, filled with anything from battered fish to blackened chicken. Salads, empanadas, quesadillas, nachos and wings are also available.

The company still operates three other locations in Ridgewood, South Orange and Summit, all of which will remain open.

"The entire Tito’s Burritos & Wings family would like to thank everyone from the Morristown community for your loyalty and patronage over the years," the company said.
