NEWARK, NJ — A seldom-seen sports moment took place involving New Jersey’s only professional hockey team this week: three siblings playing in the same NHL game.

That’s what happened Tuesday when Jack and Luke Hughes of the New Jersey Devils stepped onto the ice alongside their brother, Quinn, of the Vancouver Canucks.

The Devils – who play their home games at the Prudential Center in Newark – were visiting Vancouver when the history-making moment took place (watch the video here).

“Of course you dream you're going to play with your brothers in the NHL one day,” Jack Hughes said.

“You're in the basement, hanging out, playing, but you never really think it's going to become a reality,” he added. “For it to happen, it's definitely pretty wild. It's three kids in one game.”

The brothers didn’t disappoint, with Jack Hughes scoring a goal and nabbing two assists, Luke Hughes netting a goal, and Quinn Hughes tallying two assists.

The Hughes are now the ninth family to have at least three siblings play in the same NHL game. According to the NJ Devils, the last time it happened during the regular season was on April 13, when the Staal brothers (Eric and Marc, Florida Panthers; Jordan, Carolina Hurricanes) all played in the same game.
