3 Cops Wounded In Shooting Near Essex County Hotel: Authorities

A woman was also hospitalized after the police-involved shooting, authorities said.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A police-involved shooting took place near a hotel in Essex County on Wednesday, authorities say.

Police officers responded to a 9-1-1 call about a man with a gun at the Gallery Holiday Motel on the 50-block of Ball Street in Irvington, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Three police officers and a woman were taken to Rutgers University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

A police investigation continues. No additional details were immediately available.

Gov. Phil Murphy posted a message about the incident on social media.

"I have been updated on this afternoon’s shooting near a motel in Irvington involving multiple law enforcement officers," Murphy said. "We are grateful for all who put themselves in harm’s way to keep us safe."
