Don't Drive On These Flood-Prone Newark Streets During Rain Storms, Authorities Say

Here are some streets to avoid when the rain starts pouring in Newark.

NEWARK, NJ — Longtime residents of Newark probably know at least one flood-prone street in the city. But there are plenty of others that drivers should know about when the weather gets ugly, public safety officials say.

On Friday, the Newark Department of Public Safety issued a traffic advisory for drivers ahead of a forecasted rain storm.

"Due to today’s anticipated heavy rainfall, many streets may be flooded and drivers should avoid them," authorities warned.

A list of streets that may experience flooding is listed below, as per Newark authorities:

  • South Street and Van Buren Street
  • Jefferson and Chestnut Streets
  • State Street near Broad Street
  • Jabez and Backus Streets
  • 357 Wilson Avenue
  • Manufacturers Place and Hyatt Street
  • Magazine Street and Avenue L
  • Magazine Street and Amsterdam Street
  • Raymond Boulevard and Blanchard Street
  • Avenue L and Wilson Avenue
  • Wilson Avenue and Avenue K
  • Mary Street and Avenue L
  • Ferry and Foundry Streets
