Alleged Armed Robber Killed By Store Owner ID'd
Shooting occurred during armed robbery attempt, officials say.

A man who was shot and killed during what officials believe was an armed robbery attempt Monday afternoon has been identified, officials said Tuesday.
Mustafa Sheffield, 28, of Newark, was shot once by the owner after entering a Central Avenue gold and jewelry store and demanding cash at gunpoint. Sheffield also allegedly threatened to shoot the owner’s family members, officials said.

Sheffield died at University Hospital.
No charges had been filed as of Tuesday night but the matter will likely be presented to an Essex County Grand Jury, said Katherine Carter of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
