‘Best Cities For Hotdog Lovers’: Newark Ranks High On 2023 List

Newark landed near the top of a "Best Cities for Hot Dog Lovers" list. Jersey City and Paterson also put in decent showings.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark recently landed near the top of a national ranking of “Best Cities for Hot Dog Lovers,” edging out Jersey City and Paterson, two other New Jersey cities that also made the top half of the list.

To come up with their 2023 list of “weiners and losers,” Lawn Love compared the 200 biggest U.S. cities based on nine factors, including access to hot dog vendors, consumer ratings, topping contest awards, and whether a city hosts a hot dog eating competition.

Newark ranked as the 17th-best city on the list. Here’s how it stacked up in some key metrics, Lawn Love said:

  • Hot Dog Vendors per Square Mile - 12th
  • Number of Top-Rated Hot Dog Vendors (4.5+ Stars and 10+ Reviews) - 55th
  • Total Points for Past Three Hot Dog Ambassador Contest Awards - 6th

Meanwhile, Jersey City ranked 29th on the list (and had the fifth-highest number of hot dog vendors per square mile), and Paterson ranked 67th, rounding out a not-too-shabby showing from the Garden State. The three best cities on the list? New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.
