Man Charged In Attack On New Jersey ICE Officer
Prosecutors said the assault happened last month at an ICE facility in Newark.
NEWARK, NJ — A Dominican national is facing charges after federal prosecutors said he assaulted an immigration officer while he was awaiting deportation in Newark.
Darlin Leon, 39, of the Dominican Republic, was charged with one count of assaulting a federal officer following the incident last month, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey announced.
According to prosecutors, the assault happened on March 26 when Leon was in custody at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Newark. While he was being processed for deportation, prosecutors said Leon struck an ICE officer in the head multiple times with a closed fist.

The officer suffered injuries during the attack, officials said, including cuts and abrasions to the back of his head.
A judge detained Leon following a March 28 court appearance. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison.
