Event For Newark Business Owners: How To Land A Contract With NJ Turnpike Expansion Project
The workshop will teach business owners how to land a contract as part of the Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension Improvements Program.
NEWARK, NJ — A public workshop will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 29 for small business owners in Newark who want to learn to land a contract under a large, upcoming highway construction project.
The workshop will teach business owners how to participate in upcoming contracting opportunities associated with the Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension Improvements Program.
The New Jersey Turnpike Authority and Newark City Council President C. Lawrence Crump will host the event from 6 to 8 p.m. at the William Mobile Ashby Community Care and Training Facility, 695 Bergen Street in Newark.

Here’s what to expect, organizers said:
“The session will include a brief presentation on the Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension Improvements Program, a small business testimonial, and insights on potential contracting opportunities from industry leaders representing the Associated Construction Contractors of New Jersey and the Utility and Transportation Contractors Association. In addition to the presentations, participants will have opportunities to network with program team members, environmental and design consultants, Turnpike Authority construction staff, and representatives from local economic development and small business organizations.”

Turnpike Authority Executive Director James Carone said the agency’s goal is to award 25 percent of contracts for the Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension Improvements Program to small businesses, and 3 percent to service-disabled veteran-owned businesses.
Similar information sessions are expected be scheduled for future dates in Bayonne and Jersey City.
The Turnpike Authority is planning to rebuild the 8.1-mile Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension from Interchange 14 in Newark to Jersey Avenue in Jersey City.
The first project of the program is the replacement of 4.1 miles of bridges, roadway, and ramps between Interchange 14 in Newark and Interchange 14A in Bayonne and Jersey City. The first project includes the replacement of the Vincent Robert Casciano Bridge over Newark Bay with two new cable-stayed bridges.
Construction on the first project is scheduled to begin in 2026, with an estimated duration of 10 years.
