A rally will take place outside a federal immigration detention facility in Newark on Saturday, organizers say.
NEWARK, NJ — An “Eyes On ICE” protest is scheduled to take place outside a federal immigration detention facility in Newark on Saturday, organizers say.
According to the People’s Organization for Progress (POP), the rally will take place at noon outside Delaney Hall, 451 Doremus Avenue.
POP chair Lawrence Hamm said a main purpose of the rally is to protest the “unfair and inhumane treatment of immigrant detainees and their families,” in addition to other policies from the administration of President Donald Trump.

“We will call for an end to troops in our streets, violations of constitutional, civil and human rights, mass surveillance and political repression, and the unjust prosecution of protestors and elected representatives who speak out against Trump’s unjust policies,” Hamm said.
The group is organizing a caravan to get people to the demonstration. People who need transportation to the event and those who can provide rides can meet 10:30 a.m. in front of City Hall, 920 Broad Street in Newark. For more information, call (973) 801-0001.
