Fatal House Fire In Newark Kills 60-Year-Old Man, Authorities Say
Firefighters found the victim unresponsive in a second-floor hallway, authorities said.
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A house fire claimed the life of a 60-year-old man in Newark on Tuesday morning, authorities say.
The fire broke out on the second floor of a four-family home on the 50-block of Telford Street, according to a statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Department of Public Safety.
Firefighters arrived at the scene at 8:19 a.m., finding Wilbur Pierre, 60, unresponsive in a second-floor hallway.

Emergency responders transported Pierre to University Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 9:39 a.m.
No other injuries were reported, authorities said.

Firefighters put the blaze under control at 8:54 a.m. The cause is under investigation. No additional information was immediately available, authorities said.
