Gloria Gaynor Shares 'Survivor' Stories at Audible HQ
What's going on in Newark Thursday, Nov. 21

On Thursday, Nov. 21, the Newark Students Union will be hosting a mayoral candidates forum on education at Centennial Hall in the Newark Public Library, 5 Washington St. The forum begins at 6 pm.
All four candidates -- Shavar Jeffries, Anibal Ramos, Ras Baraka and Darrin Sharif -- have been invited to participate.
In addition to organizing and moderating the forum, the Newark Students will also perform skits to depict their experiences as students in the Newark Public School system. The skits will explore topics like school resources, student activism and the school-to-prison pipeline.

Also on Thursday, disco diva and Newark native Gloria Gaynor will be at the headquarters of Audible.com, 1 Washington Place, to talk about her new audiobook, “ We Will Survive: True Stories of Encouragement, Inspiration, and the Power of Song,” at 12:30 pm. The book, influenced by her mega-hit single, “I Will Survive,” documents three decades of her fans’ personal stories describing how the song has transformed and empowered their lives. Since the song’s release in 1978, Gaynor has received hundreds of thousands of letters from fans telling her how those powerful lyrics have given them hope and inspired their lives.
