Newark Man, 23, Killed in Smith Street Shooting

A 23-year-old city man was found shot on Smith Street early Sunday morning and later died from his injuries, authorities said.

Ralph Anderson, 23,  was found on the sidewalk in front of 35-37 Smith St. just after midnight, Acting Prosecutor Carolyn Murray and Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio said Sunday.

Anderson was taken to University Hospital, where he died from the injuries. 

The Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force and Newark detectives are continuing to investigate the shooting, but have not yet identified a motive. Anthony Ambrose, the Prosecutor's Office chief of detectives, said no arrests have been made in connection to the shooting as late Sunday morning.
