Irvington Man is City's 90th Homicide Victim in 2013

An Irvington man was killed Sunday afternoon near Vailsburg Park, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Amir Hines, 27, was shot repeatedly shortly before 1 pm and was taken to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The homicide marks the 90th slaying in Newark this year, Police Director Samuel DeMaio told NJ.com. There were just 78 homicides recorded over the same time period last year.
