Man Hit With Gun During Newark Robbery, Search Continues For 2 Of 3 Suspects: Police

The victim told the suspects that he had no money, then one of them hit him on the head, police said.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark police are searching for two of three suspects in connection with a robbery that took place earlier this month, authorities say.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, the robbery took place on Oct. 17.

“A victim reported that at approximately 5:30 a.m., he was walking on the 100-block of Adams Street, when he was approached from behind by three suspects who demanded his cash. The victim told the suspects that he had no money. At that point, Suspect 1 struck him on the head with a black handgun. All three suspects then fled, heading southbound on Adams Street.”

While searching the area, police got a report from a “concerned citizen” that the suspects attempted to rob another person in the vicinity, authorities said.

Police said Mahrie Motley, 24, of Newark, was identified as Suspect 1. He was taken into custody and faces charges of robbery, conspiracy, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Detectives said they are seeking help identifying the other two men. Police released surveillance photos of the two at-large suspects, which can be seen below.
