Essex County Man Assaulted Ex-Girlfriend, Threatened Her Life: Prosecutors
An Essex County man assaulted and threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend, prosecutors said. A jury has reached a verdict on the charges.
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — An Essex County man was recently found guilty of several charges after he assaulted his ex-girlfriend in her home two years ago, prosecutors said.
According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, a jury convicted Jason Blount, 25, of Newark, in connection with an assault that took place in Glen Ridge in October 2023.
Prosecutors said Blount restrained, assaulted and threatened to kill his former girlfriend inside her home during an act of domestic violence.

A jury returned a guilty verdict on Sept. 18 after a three-day trial, finding Blount guilty on charges of fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, third-degree criminal restraint, third-degree terroristic threats, and a disorderly persons offense of simple assault, authorities said.
Essex County prosecutors credited the Glen Ridge Police Department with aiding the investigation.

Blount faces up to five years in state prison. Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 31, prosecutors said.
