Newark’s Ironbound Restaurants Are ‘Culinary Gem,’ Report Says

A report in Bon Appétit praises the Portuguese, Spanish and Brazilian restaurants and bakeries that can be found in the Ironbound.

NEWARK, NJ — An article highlighting a “culinary gem” of Newark recently helped to draw some well-deserved attention to a variety of excellent eateries in the city’s Ironbound neighborhood.

A recent report in Bon Appétit praises the clusters of Portuguese, Spanish and Brazilian restaurants and bakeries that can be found in the Ironbound, many of them located on or around Ferry Street. In particular, it highlights one of the specialties the neighborhood has become well-known for: barbecue.

What are some of the must-see places to eat and drink? According to Bon Appétit, visitors should check out staples such as Teixeira’s Bakery, Sihana Café, Hamburgao, Seabra’s Marisqueira, Nasto’s Old World Desserts, Fornos of Spain, Adega Grill and Mompou Tapas Bar & Lounge.

The report got a thumbs-up from Assemblywoman Eliana Pintor Marin, who represents Newark and other towns in the 29th Legislative district.

“The entire world now knows what we have known all along — the Ironbound, with its wide variety of eateries, is a culinary gem,” the assemblywoman wrote on social media.
