Newark Schools Push Back Plan To Reopen Again (Here’s When)
All remote instruction will be extended until after spring break in the Newark Public School District amid the coronavirus pandemic.
NEWARK, NJ — The Newark Public School District is delaying its plans to partially reopen for in-person classes again amid the coronavirus pandemic, officials announced Wednesday.
The Newark Board of Education posted the following message via social media:
“As per Superintendent Leon, all remote instruction will be extended until after Spring Break. In-person classes will resume April 12, 2021 with the implementation of hybrid-model instruction.”
School officials said the district will continue to distribute meals to students and families at the 22 food service program sites, and families can visit whichever location is most convenient.

Prior to Wednesday’s decision, the president of the Newark Teachers Union said its members “don’t think it’s safe to reopen,” and added that they’re “doing everything in our power to try to stop it.”
