Man Killed Was Targeted in Shooting, Officials Say

A spokeswoman for the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Friday identified the man shot and killed on a city street Wednesday night.

Newark resident Bilal Woods, 31, was shot around 11 p.m. at West Kinney and Nevada streets, Katherine Carter said. He was pronounced dead at University Hospital about a half-hour later, Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Fennelly told Nj.com. Woods was likely targeted, Fennelly also said.

The shooting is under investigation.
