Search Yields Drugs, Weapons and Fake BB Gun, Sheriff Says

Revolver, rifle and pot allegedly found at N. 6th Street home

A city man was arrested Tuesday on weapons and narcotics charges following a search of an apartment by Essex County Sheriff’s officers, Sheriff Armando Fontoura announced.  

Sheriff’s detectives executed a search warrant at 41 N. 6th Street, where an occupant let them in. Detectives searched the man after noticing a bulge in his pocket and discovered an imitation BB gun, the sheriff’s office said.

Inside the apartment, detectives also reportedly discovered a loaded .22-caliber revolver, a .30-caliber rifle and 30 bags of marijuana in a hallway closet, the sheriff’s office also said.

A Newark man was arraigned today following a weapon and narcotics arrest made yesterday by Essex County Sheriff detectives in Newark's North Ward.

A second man in the apartment, Harry Alford, 32, was arrested after he allegedly admitted the guns and drugs were his.  He was charged with two counts each of  possession of a weapon, two counts each of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and possession of narcotics.

Bail was set Wednesday at $100,000.
