Child, Woman Dead After 5 Shot In Newark: Prosecutor

3 injured victims are at the hospital.

NEWARK, NJ — Two people are dead, including a child, after a shooting Saturday night in Newark that also injured three other victims, authorities said.

The shooting happened around 7 a.m. on the 300 block of Chancellor Avenue, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

A 10 year-old boy and a 21-year-old woman were pronounced dead at University Hospital. Three other victims — an 11-year-old boy, a 19-year-old man and a 60-year-old man — are in stable condition as of 10:30 p.m.

No arrests have been announced as of this writing.

Gov. Phil Murphy said he was briefed on the incident.

"Please pray for the victims and their families," Murphy said.

Several NJ Transit bus lines in Newark have been detoured because of ongoing police activity.
