Student Brings Loaded Gun To NJ School, Found Stashed In Book Bag: Police

The student triggered the metal detector and a wand, which alerted school officials, according to police.

NEWARK, NJ — A student who tried to sneak a loaded gun into school was caught on Wednesday morning in Newark, said Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda.

At around 9:06 a.m., police were called to Great Oaks Charter School, at 17 Crawford St., on a call that a 17-year-old male student tried to enter the school with a handgun, said Miranda.

The student had stashed the loaded gun inside his book bag, which set off the metal detector and a metal detector wand, said Miranda.
