Care About Cleanups? City Seeks Block Captain Volunteers

Block Captains are city volunteers who work to keep their neighborhoods clean.

Block Captains are sought to assist with the New Brunswick Clean City Program, a volunteer operation that enlists residents to help keep their neighborhoods clean.

At 7:30 p.m. March 26, the New Brunswick Environmental Commission will discuss the Clean City program at its monthly meeting at the New Brunswick Free Public Library, 60 Livingston Ave., according to a press release from the city Mayor's Office.

Block captains are expected to network with their neighbors about the importance of a clean block and organize periodic block cleanups.

Bags, gloves and supplementary materials will be handed out at the meeting, according to the release.

“This program has raised awareness about the importance of litter reduction and keeping our city clean," said Donna Caputo, Clean Communities Coordinator for New Brunswick, in a prepared statement. "It’s about neighbors educating neighbors with the City’s technical support and supplies."

We hope many New Brunswick residents sign up to become Block Captains on March 26th."
