Crowded Livingston School Rents Classrooms At Anshe Emeth Temple

Basic skills classes will be held in the temple next door to Livingston Elementary School.

Livingston Elementary School is near the point of capacity, school officials say, which has resulted in classroom space at Anshe Emeth Memorial Temple being rented out for the 2012-13 school year.

According to Superintendent Richard Kaplan, basic skills classes, done on a pull-out basis, will be held in four rooms at the temple, which is located next door to Livingston School.

Students will be escorted from their Livingston classrooms by teachers and taken across the parking lot between the two buildings into the temple for their classes.

Livingston Elementary School has around 620 students enrolled, Kaplan said.

The basic skills classes will service between 100-120 kids on a rotating basis, he said.

The temple was previously used for basic skills classroom space about two years ago, Kaplan said.

The rooms, which are not full-size classrooms, have been deemed suitable by county officials, he said.

On Tuesday night, the New Brunswick Board of Education approved a resolution to rent the classrooms for no more than $80,000 for the duration of the 2012-13 school year.
