Edison Man Drove 110 Miles Per Hour In Fatal Piscataway Crash
The Edison man is Ahmadsabir Ashaq, 20. The crash happened last June on Stelton Road and killed a Carteret man.
PISCATAWAY, NJ — An Edison man was sentenced to five years in state prison for a fatal crash that occurred on June 3, 2023, in Piscataway.
The Edison man is Ahmadsabir Ashaq, 20. The crash happened at 1:41 a.m. on Stelton Road at Mindy Lane. A Lexus sedan, driven by Ashaq, struck a Ford Focus and then struck a utility pole and caught fire.
Police say Ashaq was traveling on Stelton Road at more than 110 miles per hour when he collided with the Ford Focus as it was turning on Mindy Lane.

The Ford Focus, driven by Shailesh Gurrapu, 24, of Carteret, sustained serious damage and caught fire. Gurrapu succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Both Ashaq and a passenger in his Lexus were transported to a local hospital.

On March 28, Ashaq pled guilty to second-degree vehicular homicide. He must serve 85 percent of his five-year sentence before he is eligible for parole.
This case was investigated by Patrolman William Kloos of the Piscataway Police Department and Detective James Alleva of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
