UPDATED: Halloween Again Postponed in New Brunswick until Nov. 9
The New Brunswick Police Department said Monday that a winter storm scheduled to hit the area on Wednesday has created another unsafe situation for trick or treating.

All Halloween festivities in New Brunswick, including the Unity Square Partnership's Trunk of Treat, will now take place on Nov. 9.
According to Unity Square officials, Trunk or Treat will now be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 9, in the parking lot of St. Mary of Mount Virgin Church, located at the intersection of Remsen Avenue and Sandford Street.

"Despite the logistical challenges posed by (Hurricane) Sandy, we look forward to hosting a successful event for the families of New Brunswick," Unity Square's Jason Rowe said in an email to Patch on Monday afternoon.
According to a Nixle alert from the New Brunswick Police Department on Monday afternoon, Halloween will be celebrated on Friday, Nov. 9 at all the city elementary schools due to a winter storm that is predicted to hit the area on Wednesday, and downed trees and wires in the city that are still creating unsafe situations.

Students will be permitted to wear costumes to school, where a Halloween parade will be conducted and refreshments served, the message said.
Gov. Chris Christie signed an executive order last week that rescheduled Halloween statewide for Monday, Nov. 5, but according to the message, New Brunswick is not observing Halloween on Nov. 5. The original rescheduling date was Nov. 7, before Monday's change.
"The safety of our children is our number one concern and we feel this is the best alternative at this time," the message said.
