Highland Park to Host Tree, Menorah Lighting Tonight

The ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Main Street Highland Park will host a Christmas tree and menorah lighting and Kwanzaa celebration at 6:30 p.m. tonight, Saturday, Dec. 8, on Raritan Avenue.

The multi-cultural celebration will be held on Raritan Avenue, between Second Avenue and Third Avenue in Highland Park.

The ceremonies will begin at 6:30 p.m., with a 7 p.m. lighting of the menorah, according to a press release from Main Street Highland Park.

The event is free and open to the public.

The tree is displayed on property owned by IM Studio, and the menorah was donated by Chabad of Central New Jersey, according to the release.

The event will featuring musical entertainment, and several businesses in the borough will have their own festivities, beginning at 5 p.m.:

  • Over the Moon Toys and Through the Moongate, located at 440 Raritan Ave. will offer caroling, activities and refreshments.
  • Yellow Brick Road preschool, located on South Third Avenue, will have pictures with Santa.
  • Ruthie’s Bagel Dish, 70 Raritan Ave., will be raising money for St. Jude’s Children’s Specialized Hospital. 

A number of local singing groups are also scheduled to perform holiday songs at the lighting, according to the release.
