NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — The Landing Lane bridge that connects New Brunswick and Piscataway will reopen this Friday, December 17, the state Department of Transportation announced.

It will reopen after the evening commute.

The highly-used bridge has been closed since mid-summer: Landing Lane Bridge was initially closed for emergency repairs in mid-July and engineers thought repairs would take approximately six weeks.

However, after work began on the bridge this summer, DOT engineers discovered damage to the bridge girders and webbing that was more extensive than anticipated, requiring more involved repairs. Additionally, the need for utility relocations took a little longer than expected, said the Dept. of Transportation.

The two Landing Lane bridges go over the Raritan River and Delaware & Raritan Canal connecting Piscataway and New Brunswick.

The DOT's contractor, I.E.W. Construction Group, is scheduled to finish the final paving of the bridge deck and approaches over the next few days. If the work is completed sooner, the bridges will reopen earlier.

Important: A full-scale replacement project of the Landing Lane Bridge is in design and expected to begin construction in 2025.
