New Brunswick Teen, 15, Charged With Attempted Murder

Police say the teen boy fired a gun Friday night on New Brunswick city streets, and also shot a man inside a home in August:

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — A 15-year-old New Brunswick teen boy is charged with attempted murder after police say he fired a gun in two separate incidents on New Brunswick city streets.

The most recent shooting happened Friday night (technically 12:22 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5): Police say shots were fired in the area of Central Avenue and Courtlandt Street in New Brunswick.

New Brunswick Police said they responded "quickly" and a 15-year-old juvenile male was taken into custody. The teen was found to be in possession of a handgun and was apprehended after a foot pursuit in which he ran from police.

Nobody was shot in that incident.

However, New Brunswick Police Detective Keith Walcott investigated and further linked the teen to a shooting that occurred on August 11 at 265 Sandford Street, also in New Brunswick. Police say in that incident, which happened inside a home, the teen shot a man in the leg. The man survived

The juvenile was charged with acts of juvenile delinquency for offenses which if committed by an adult would constitute: Attempted Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose, Possession of a High-Capacity Magazine, Possession of Prohibited Weapons, Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Resisting Arrest by Flight and Obstruction of the Administration of Justice.

The teen boy is currently in custody at the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center.
