NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - New Brunswick residents need not be alarmed if they find discolored water coming from the taps this month.
Hydrant flushing operations starting Monday in New Brunswick may cause discoloration, township officials said. Though water use is recommended to be kept to a minimum due to potential discoloration, the water will still be safe to use.
However, residents should not do laundry when water discoloration is present due to potential garment discoloration.

The hydrant flushing will begin at 10 p.m. Monday for Nichol Avenue, Jones Avenue, Paul Robeson Boulevard, Ryders Lane, Pine Street and other nearby roads, New Brunswick officials said. Other hydrant flushing locations will be posted on the city’s website, Facebook and Twitter pages.
Flushing work is scheduled to take place through May 26.
