NJ Powerball Spikes to $320 Million, Drawing Tonight

This is the fourth largest Powerball jackpot in history.

New Jersey’s Powerball jackpot has increased to $320 million for tonight’s drawing, according to New Jersey Lottery Executive Director Carole Hedinger. This is the fourth largest jackpot since Powerball’s inception in 1992.

Since this roll began on June 27, over $6.95 million have been won by New Jersey lottery players in prizes ranging from $2 to $1,000,000. More than $33.2 million worth of Powerball tickets have been sold this summer. Both small and large retailers have shared in over $1.66 million in commissions.

“That’s money that can be used to grow their businesses and stimulate the local economy,” Hedinger said.

Recently, the Powerball jackpots have been higher than usual due to a Powerball game redesign, which took place last January. The new structure makes more significant prizes available to players while they also play for the big jackpot.

Hedinger estimates that more than $13.95 million in Powerball tickets will be sold. This money will go the state of New Jersey and used to benefit education and institutions throughout the state.
