The city-run summer program held its annual field day at Buccleuch Park on Thursday.
Buccleuch Park was a sea of red shirts on Thursday during Play S.A.F.E.'s annual field day.
Over 1,100 kids took part in Play S.A.F.E. this summer, according to program coordinator Dave Blevins.
Play S.A.F.E. (Summer Activities For Everyone) is a run by the City of New Brunswick for kids ages 6-12 living in the city.

The six week program began on June 25 and ends on Aug. 3, but its culminating activity was the annual field day celebration, in which kids from all 12 camp sites came together at the park for a day of sports, team games and arts and crafts.
Blevins said the children were managed by a staff of 125 people who escorted the groups around to different game and sport stations throughout the day, including t-ball, dodge ball, soccer, basketball, potato sack races and relay races.

One of the stations specifically addressed exercise, and featured games that required a lot of physical movement but were fun, to avoid boredom, Blevins said.
"You don't tell kids "We are going to exercise," he said.
The kids were served a nutritious lunch of a chicken breast, a fruit and vegetable and bread and milk. The camp program included a daily free lunch provided by the Summer Food Service Program that followed federal nutrition guidelines for student lunches, Blevins said.
After lunch, the kids stripped down to their bathing suits and leaped in front of a New Brunswick Fire Department fire hose spraying water into the air to cool them down.
