Rutgers Ranked 15th Best Public University In Nation, 2nd Year In Row

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — Rutgers University continues to climb, or at the very least, hold steady in college rankings.

Rutgers-New Brunswick was ranked as the No. 15 top public university in the nation for the second year in a row, according to the 2025 U.S. News & World Report college rankings, just released Tuesday.

In their rankings, Princeton University just down the road was deemed the No. 1 best college/university in America, followed by MIT, Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Cal-Tech, Duke, Johns Hopkins and Northwestern.

Of that general list, Rutgers-New Brunswick was ranked No. 41, beating, in New Jersey, Stevens Institute of Technology (No. 76) and NJIT (No. 84). Rutgers University - Newark was ranked No. 80 best school in the nation, and Rutgers University - Camden was ranked No. 98.

Rutgers-Newark and Rutgers-Camden made strong gains among the top 50 public universities, with Rutgers-Newark named #39 up from #40 last year, and Rutgers-Camden climbing to #46 from #49 last year.

Rutgers scored well for a category called "social mobility," which assesses how well schools enroll and graduate economically disadvantaged students. Rutgers-Newark ranks #5 for social mobility (up from #21 last year) and Rutgers-Camden is #15 (up from #35). Rutgers-New Brunswick ranks #36 (up from #42) for social mobility.

Among the Big Ten Conference public universities, Rutgers-New Brunswick ranked 5th.
