Rutgers Student Killed In Route 18 Crash, Police Say

The 18-year-old died after police said he lost control of his vehicle and struck a utility pole, resulting in a fire.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — An 18-year-old Rutgers student has been identified as the person killed in a crash on Route 18 in late October, authorities said.

At 11:58 p.m. on Oct. 30, New Brunswick Police Captain Amish Shah said police responded to a motor vehicle crash on Route 18 South just before the ramp to Route 1 South.

Upon arrival, police found a vehicle fully engulfed in flames and occupied only by the driver, who was identified as Anthony Hanna, 18, of Morganville.

Preliminary investigation indicated that Hanna lost control of the vehicle and struck a utility pole, Shah said, resulting in a fire. His injuries were determined to be fatal.

According to Hanna's LinkedIn profile, he was a freshman at Rutgers University studying mechanical engineering and was a student at Marlboro High School.

He is survived by his parents, siblings, grandparents, friends and other family members, according to his obituary.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations in his name be made to St. Mina Coptic Orthodox Church.
