Safety Upgrades Coming To Dangerous New Brunswick Intersection
The intersection of Jersey and Van Dyke avenues has seen more than 60 car collisions between 2019 and 2023:

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — The intersection of Jersey and Van Dyke avenues — deemed one of the most dangerous intersections in New Brunswick — will be getting new traffic lights and high-visibility pedestrian-crossing warning signs.
Rep. Frank Pallone, the congressman who represents Central Jersey in Washington, secured $850,000 to install new LED traffic signals, accessible sidewalks and ramps, enhanced pavement markings and high-visibility warning signs.
The Jersey/Van Dyke avenues intersection has witnessed more than 60 motor vehicle collisions between 2019 and 2023, according to the city of New Brunswick.

Also, two New Brunswick public schools, the New Brunswick Housing Authority's main office and residential complexes such as Robeson Village and Schwartz Homes Housing Authority are all located on Van Dyke Avenue.
Van Dyke Avenue is a crucial link between Rt. 27 and Jersey Avenue, further intensifying traffic pressures and safety concerns at the intersection, said Pallone.

"Securing this funding is a crucial step toward prioritizing safety at one of the city's most hazardous intersections," said Pallone. "By installing new LED traffic signals, accessible sidewalks and ramps, enhanced pavement markings, and high visibility warning signs, this project will significantly improve safety for motorists and pedestrians alike. Investing in these upgrades is essential for reducing accidents, enhancing traffic flow, and ensuring everyone can navigate New Brunswick’s streets safely."
