The sinkhole formed sometime around 6 a.m. Many roads are still closed. Sinkholes form when the weather warms up after being cold, and aging asphalt contracts and then expands, sometimes breaking.
Avoid the area of Albany Street (North and South) and Kirkpatrick Street, said police. Albany Street northbound heading towards Easton Avenue is diverted to the southbound Lane. Albany Street southbound heading towards Joyce Kilmer Avenue is closed.
