Student's Car Parked In Rutgers Lot Stolen

There was additional crime on the Rutgers - New Brunswick campus over Labor Day weekend, including someone robbed and reports of gunshots:

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — A Rutgers student was the victim of a car theft sometime Friday night into Saturday morning, according to Rutgers campus police.

The car was parked when it was stolen.

The student said he parked his car in Rutgers Parking Lot 112A on the Livingston campus in Piscataway. Sometime between 8:40 p.m. Friday and 3 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31 the vehicle was stolen.

He returned in the morning to find the vehicle (make and model not given) had been stolen. The car was later recovered by Piscataway Police.

  • Someone was robbed at 2:40 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 1 near Union and Hamilton streets on the Rutgers campus. The victim, who is not affiliated with Rutgers, reported that he was approached by multiple perpetrators who demanded items of value and then a physical altercation broke out between them. The perpetrators fled on foot from the scene. The victim sustained minor injuries, was treated on scene and refused further medical assistance.
  • There was also a report of gunshots fired at 11:40 in the morning Friday, Aug. 30 in the area of Comstock Street and Jones Avenue, in the city of New Brunswick. There were no reported victim(s).
