Wage Theft Advocates' Children Ask Council for Consideration
New Labor has appeared several times in front of council to request an ordinance that would address wage theft in New Brunswick.
A number of children approached the New Brunswick City Council on Thursday night and held up signs asking the council to consider taking action against the practice of wage theft in New Brunswick.
Wage theft activists have spoken at the last few city council meetings, asking for an ordinance that would penalize wage theft in New Brunswick or at least take a stance against it.
The children were of families involved with the fight to stop wage theft in the New Brunswick area, working with organizations like New Labor and Unity Square.
Council president Rebecca Escobar asked the children if they knew why they were there, and accepted the signs on behalf of the council.
Escobar said the council has the information that New Labor has presented to them on the topic and is still reviewing it.
